For those of us who can still remember Choral Matins, there's a very fine one given by St.Thomas' Fifth Ave, NY to the Service Setting by Stanford.
Catch it (free of charge) while you can here http://www.saintthomaschurch.org/Stream.html
because John Scott has just posted a personal request that perhaps listeners should pay for the privilege of listening to these services, at the rate of US$5 per month. (Still a bargain IMHO)

I've been thinking recently that I'd love to sing at choral matins. What a shame that so much of our beautiful Anglican music was written for liturgies that are no longer used. I can't even think of a church in this city that does matins, let alone choral matins - over to you, Lance...

We've just had a very Mattins time with our anthems recently - Stanford's Te Deum and Jubilate in Bb and Britten's Jubilate in C (twice) in the space of a month and a half Smile

John.

PS. You can still hear Choral Mattins at St Albans Cathedral on the 3rd and 5th Sundays in the month.

And don't forget Durham- every Sunday at 10:00.

I went to one a few years ago. I think they did Stanford in C . Terrific service (sat in the quire), followed by a well attended Eucharist in the nave.

I had an idea that June Nixon trots one out every now and again at the cathedral, but a check of their website seems to suggest otherwise.

About the only time one can visit that church is when there is a service. Otherwise, good luck. Evil or Very Mad

If anyone is up here and wants to catch Matins - we do it every week at St. Mary's Cottingham (E. Yorks) - It does have a tendency to get inundated with baptisms though - We still do our Choral Evensong with Anthem every week though as well.

Salisbury do choral mattins on sundays at 11:15, or at least they did, then changed it this year to 9am!
